The South African economy has been struggling for a while now, with its recovery further hampered by the country\u2019s acute energy shortages and resultant load shedding. President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his\u00a02020 State of the Nation Address, was candid about the prolonged economic slump, stating,\u00a0\u201cOur economy has not grown at any meaningful rate for over a decade\u201d<\/em>. He stated unequivocally that the load shedding was having a \u201cdebilitating\u201d effect on the country.<\/p><\/br>\n\n\n\n

While the speech was an honest admittance of the challenges faced by the country, he also mentioned various positive measures that the government and civil society are taking to bring citizens\u2019 lives back on track. However, it remains an unfortunate fact that the halt in economic growth will not be resolved overnight. And the sentiments of the people reflect this.<\/p><\/br>\n\n\n\n
